Partick will feel upset not to have taken all three points and United will be happy to leave Glasgow with a share of the points.
Following a match where Thistle hit the woodwork an incredible four times, and United scored with one of only two attempts on goal.
The games first chance fell to Andy McLaren on six minutes when Jean-Yves Anis was short with a back pass, but McLaren should really have done better than blast his shot wide from only six yards.
Thistle came more into the game and thought they had opened the scoring after nine minutes when Gerard Britton's chip rebounded off the crossbar and Jamie Mitchell tapped in from close range only for the lineman to flag for offside.
There were few other goalscoring chances during the half although Stephane Bonnes had a shot cleared off the line on 15 minutes and Alan Archibald fired a 20-yard free-kick just the wrong side of James Langfield's post.
The second half began with Thistle again in the attack and Bonnes and Britton both failed to beat Paul Gallacher in the United goal.
Thistle again hit the bar on 50 minutes when Billy Gibson beat Gallacher from 14 yards, but again looked on in anguish as his shot rebounded off the bar to safety.
Gibson again was involved in Thistle's next chance on 59 minutes when his cross was met by Britton's heat but again flashed his header against the post.
It was no surprise that Thistle took the lead on 65 minutes when David Rowson completed a flowing passing move with an unstoppable shot low into Langfield's bottom right-hand corner.
However the Thistle celebrations had hardly died down when United equalised three minutes later.
Barry Robson beat Langfield from all of 35 yards with a tremendous free-kick that gave the keeper no chance.
Both sides tried in vein for the winner with Derek Fleming coming closest for Thistle with a 25 yard free-kick which again hit the woodwork on 85 minutes and the same player on 89 forced Gallacher to tip a 20-yard shot round the post.
There was no further scoring, despite Thistle's best efforts and they perhaps unluckily had to settle for a share of the points.
