Ten-man Inverness battled away for a 1-1 draw with Dundee United in a lacklustre match in front of just 1,125 fans at Pittodrie as Ross Tokely marked his 300th Caley appearance with a red card.

Despite Caley having the bulk of the early possession, it was the visitors who came closest early on.

Mark Wilson's 20-yard free-kick from the left beat ex-Rangers stopper Mark Brown, but grazed the crossbar and went over for a goal kick.

At the other end Ritchie Hart had a low drive parried by Paul Jarvie and centre-half Paul Ritchie was there to clear for a corner.

United started to come into the game and Derek McInness saw a long-range effort fly wide of the post as the Tannadice side attempted to stamp their authority on a poor first half.

The best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to United's Jim McIntyre when his vicious effort from the right smashed off Brown's left-hand post.

Moments later McIntyre was unable to latch on to a David McCracken cross and the teams went in at the interval at 0-0.

The second half immediately started in a more lively fashion than the first had ended, and the home side took the lead on the 50th minute.

A sublime long pass from Russell Duncan found Roy McBain whose low effort was excellently parried by Jarvie, but the United keeper could only watch as Juanjo was on hand to net from six yards.

Caley could have doubled their lead only minutes later when a Barry Wilson free-kick rebounded off the post and the head of Jarvie and out.

United were back on level terms in the 62nd minute when McIntyre found the net with a glorious 20-yard effort.

Mark Wilson laid it off for the midfielder who had come so close in the first half and this time he buried it hard past the helpless Brown.

Inverness weren't to be outdone, however, and tricky Spaniard Juanjo continued to cause problems at the back for the visitors, this time his effort was deflected out for a Caley's seventh corner of the game.

Tokely will remember his 300th game for Inverness for the wrong reasons, after earning himself a 67th minute red card.

Tokely was adjudged by fourth official David Somers to have gone in late on McIntyre and was dismissed for his second bookable offence.

United continued to press and brought on Collin Samuel to try and spice up the forward line.

Samuel came close with a tricky run, but his finish failed to trouble Brown in the Caley goal.

Despite being a man down for the last 20 minutes, Inverness held on and denied Ian McCall's side a win.
