It was ‘ole, ole’ as Dundee United rolled to their seventh game in a row undefeated at Tannadice Park.
Ian McCall’s men notched two first half goals, from Mark Kerr and the ever-young Andy McLaren (incidentally sponsored by the messageboard posters from THIS site!). Kerr’s was a real gem, half-volleying a Jimmy MacIntyre knockdown from 16 yards. McLaren’s goal came only three minutes later, when he nodded in a Robson corner, to send Arabs everywhere (including the online ones!) delirious.
It was much deserved win, and United outplayed Rangers for most of the game. Only for the first half-hour did the result look in doubt, with the two teams evenly matched. Many fans have stated that that is the worst performance/team ever to play for Rangers at Tannadice, and it has to be said they rarely threatened United’s goal. Rangers fans began throwing their scarves at the dugout at one point, and there were several arrests.
But take nothing away from United in what was a very strong performance from them. The team is beginning to gel as the players begin to know each others’ game, and the future certainly looks better than than the very recent past.
It’s a celebratory day for Arabs worldwide. We have, this writer believes, finally turned the corner and become, once more, a team that can battle, and as Specky Sid pointed out on the messageboard, in the last two games against the Old Firm – scored 3 conceded 2. Not bad, not bad at all. Compare that to the last two season’s of 5-0’s and 6-1’s it’s an undeniable sign of improvement and there’s not an Arab who was at the game yesterday who is not delighted at the overall performance. It could have even been 3-0 as MacLaren saw a goal-bound effort defelected onto the woodwork in the dying minutes of the first half.
Well done Eddie Thompson, well done Ian McCall, and well done the eleven Scotsmen who dumped the ‘mighty’ Rangers at Tannadice yesterday. Proud to be an Arab.
