If Craig Brewster didn't realise the enormity of the task to turn his beloved Dundee United around before he came back to Tannadice, then he will know it now after watching this horror show of defending which epitomised everything that is wrong with this club.
Having seen his team play some excellent football, they surrendered easy goals and the highly-criticised high earners subsequently crumbled to the hard workers and hunger of the Highlanders.
Having squandered three easy early chances, the Tangerines' deserved opener came in the 18th minute with a clever Charlie Mulgrew free-kick from 25 yards curling the ball around the wall
Number two for United should have come in the 27th minute from a Lee Miller penalty, but he hit the inside of the post after Collin Samuel had amazingly weaved a full 40 yards past five players before being downed by Ross Tokely.
And the Tangerines were penalised for this two minutes later when absolutely woeful defending from Alan Archibald gifted Darren Dods with a free header from six yards for the veteran defender to head across goal and out of Derek Stillie's reach from a Barry Wilson free-kick.
But the potent left foot of Mulgrew gave United the lead again five minutes from the break with a peach of a free kick, firing his 25-yard curler into the top corner.
However, on the stroke of half time, Inverness again equalised when the speedy Richard Hart lef Stuart Duff for dead to cut the ball back for Dennis Wyness, taking advantage of slack marking from David McCracken, to whip the ball high into the net from 12 yards.
Brewster must have cringed as yet again his defence was ripped apart time after time throughout the second period. They were left looking red-faced in the 49th minute when Hart againeasily outpaced the struggling Duff and crossed low for Craig Dargo to nip in front of the sleeping McCracken to stab the ball in at the near post.
And the embarrassment was completed five minutes from time when substitute Alan Morgan, again with acres of space, shot home from the edge of the box with a fine left- foot drive.
