It has today been strongly speculated that Dundee FC may be forced to groundshare at Tannadice next season. Their financial uncertainty and crippling debts have seen the idea mooted in official circles, and both clubs’ representatives have issued statements.
The United camp has reacted by keeping its options open. The Official Website released a statement as follows:
“Dundee United have stated consistently that we would always be prepared to discuss sharing facilities with our neighbours, as long as the proposals were feasible and would also benefit Dundee United.
The Evening Telegraph has Eddie Thompson quoted as saying:
“My only comment on what you are suggesting to me would be that we would always consider any proposals that were put forward if they were for the benefit of Dundee United Football Club, but that is nothing I have not said many times before.”
The Dundee FC Official Site also released a statement
“Dundee’s administrators have confirmed newspaper reports that the club groundsharing next season is an option, but another option is the status quo. A spokesman said, “The administrators’ clear focus is to secure the club’s ability to continue trading and to survive. We are looking at a range of options in relation to where Dundee plays its football including the status quo. At this stage it is important that we keep all avenues open and this is what we are doing.”
Many Dees appear to be in uproar, saying they would rather their club died than move to Tannadice, and I can empathise with that emotion, knowing how I’d feel about United playing at Dens every week, Actually, we do pretty well there! . Realistically though, it is an option worth considering. There is no other stadium in Dundee big enough is there?
