Dundee United boss Peter Houston was thrilled by the way his players bounced back in style from their defeat against Motherwell last midweek to beat Rangers but has warned his men they might have to look beyond their normal passing game when they return to Fir Park.
United have not enjoyed the best of times against Stuart McCall's side recently and Houston is mindful that the state of the pitch could have a major bearing on the outcome.
Therefore, Houston is considering adopting a 'horses for courses' approach as they attempt to atone for last week's 3-0 Scottish Cup defeat.
He said: "It was great to bounce back after the disappointment of the cup defeat, especially at Ibrox. All credit to the lads as they worked really hard and never let their heads go down when we went behind twice.
"But when you score three goals at Rangers, you certainly think you deserve to win. However, it is horses for courses in many ways and we have to look at ourselves at Motherwell and say we have not done particularly well this season.
"They have knocked us out of both cups and we have lost a league match there as well. We will also have to look at the state of the pitch and decide if it is conducive to our passing game. It might mean we have to adopt a different approach but I also think we cannot just knock the ball from back to front all the time. We will have to mix it up and ensure that we are on the second balls which was something we did not do last week."
