The Tangerines have scored in the final three minutes of games a remarkable six times in a row throughout recent weeks, but it has only been to scrape draws after losing the opening goal.
Houston knows the value of scoring first in the SPL and with freefalling Hibs heading to Tannadice this weekend, the United manager wants his players to flip their form on its head.
"What I'd like us to do is start matches like we have been finishing them," he said. "If we can do that then we'll start turning draws into wins.
"The first goal is very important and we have found at our cost that we've had to chase games."
