Sitting, supping in Frews last Saturday before the Livvy game, I was bemoaning the double whammy that was the injustice of losing Mark Wilson for a second week, when in a moment of bravado (and in retrospect, madness) I stated, “I’ll take a win, no matter how ugly, in fact I’ll take three ugly wins over the next three weeks.”
At about 3.50pm the same day, those words were well and truly haunting me, as I sat staring out over Tanny from beneath my tartan travelling rug in the George Fox Lower (that’s a bit of journalistic licence – honest!) as I seriously began to wonder why I bothered buying a season ticket and why I bothered driving 150 miles to watch the awful ‘football’ that was on show. But hey, I’m a dyed-in-the-wool (especially up here in Aberdeen) Arab and a man of my word and I’m definitely not in the “McCall out” brigade – I’m with Kilted Arab on this subject and I agree 100% with the sentiments of his previous article on that very subject.
In spite of the shambles that is the SFA trying to ruin my week so far with: (a) the embarrassment that is our national team and national game; and (b) rolling over to the Old Firm (yet again) on the subject of poor hard done by Nacho Novo (what’s the difference Mr Taylor?) and just when I’m wondering why we all bother, suddenly it’s not all doom and gloom (for me ‘n’ Tangy anyway). Out of the gloom I’m instead rewarded with two ‘home’ games in consecutive weeks as the Mountain comes to Mohammed, well okay the Arabs come to the Granite Sh1tty!!!.
Whilst I believe we are overdue to give someone a good doing, I’ll settle for another ugly win this week (and because I’ll not have the car, I can have some more liquid anaesthetic than usual) and I’ll keep the humping to dish out next week when mutton is on the menu!
As Tangy has already said on the Board today, I would very much doubt if the game is in any danger, but a word of caution on the state of the A90…there are roadworks at Laurencekirk and Stonehaven and I would suggest that you would be best to take the Aberdeen Harbour turn off – Wellington Road - as there is a new Asda Wall-Mart at the Bridges Of Dee the traffic there is chaotic. Finally, well done United for laying on the Supporters buses, just make sure we match that with a performance and with three points. Time to start climbing!
