The 23-year-old, who in October 2009 was sentenced to 32 months in jail for causing death by dangerous driving, spent a season on loan at Tannadice while Craig Levein was manager. With Jon Daly sidelined, boss Peter Houston could turn to Robertson to bolster his striking options.
He said: "He wants to try and get his career back on track, and start playing football again. He isn't with a club and we'll see how he is in training, and if he's any good then we'll sit down and talk."
Meanwhile, Dundee United's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash against Hamilton on Wednesday night is subject to a pitch inspection.
Referee Willie Collum will carry out the inspection at Tannadice at 5.30pm.
Tannadice has suffered several call-offs this winter and persistent rain has led to fears of a waterlogged pitch.
