Stripping the fans off?

THE NEW KIT

Thursday saw the new kit unveiled to the masses and whilst the introduction of a deal with Hummel was not entirely unexpected there can be no doubt that the inclusion of the colour grey has certainly ruffled a few collars(non grey ones at that). The first thing we should say is that no kit will ever please 100% of the fan base and the club are damned if they do and damned if they dont on such matters.

Utd Mad decided to check out the kit in the flesh and travelled down to the club shop today to have a closer look at the kits.

Home Kit: First impression on looking at the kit in the flesh (well, through the window) was that it looks a hell of a lot better than in the pictures. Concerns still remain on all the major talking points. The grey just seems totally out of place with tangerine and black, and the badge and Hummel sign have to be in some way symmetrical. The plus side are that the material is far better quality than the old TFG flame engulfing stuff. This could be seen as a negative, unfortunately, for the more ‘well fed' members of the tangerine army as it does appear to be potentially highly clingy. The other niggle would be the shiny look and feel of the chevrons – it was confirmed to me that these may change as these tops were simple mock ups.

Away Kit: Looks a hell of a lot better in the flesh but still has a retro look which I'm not convinced is all together deliberate. There appears to have been more effort put in to the trims on the away kit (chevrons inside a border etc) and once a sponsor is emblazoned across the front it may just turn out to be a favourite amongst the fans.

One vital thing that was stressed to me today is that the leisure range is amazing and has to be seen to be believed. The Hummel brand has experienced something of a re emergence in recent years and is no question a step in the right direction with regards to our football club attracting the right companies and sponsors.

Everyone has different opinions on this kit and most have expressed their views on the message boards but everyone should make a point of having a look in the shop window tomorrow to see if seeing it in the flesh revises any opinions.
