It came to a relief to all United fans to eventually shake the shackles and get the first win of the season under our belts. The longer United went without a victory, the harder it was going to be to get that all important result. It therefore came as a surprise to find ourselves knowing we were going to get that victory with less than ten minutes of the game gone. The confidence the team will take from this will show in future games now that the pressure is off and this was evident in the way the United played out the rest of the game.
Happy to allow Aberdeen to have the ball, the United defence with new signing Scott Severin playing in the heart of the defence coped with almost everything Aberdeen could throw at them but even with United being content with the early three goal blitz, they could easily have have scored several more goals. Severin, who played an important role in steadying the defence has gone some way to proving to some of the doubters that he is not past playing at this level and it was clear for all to see that his leadership qualities at the back will only compliment the captains role taken on by top scorer Jon Daly.
