Well perhaps the less said the better about our exit from the CIS cup. The smallest crowd I can ever remember being in at Tannadice saw a lack lustre performance and only a bizarre refereeing decision separated the teams.
So it’s back to league business and a visit to the Kingdom of Fife (why is it a kingdom anyway? I was asked that the other day and couldn’t explain!) to the new plastic pitch at Dunfermline.
Ian McCall has rightly pointed out that our league form has greatly improved and only one defeat in six matches is not bottom of the table form.
It’s hard to know just what he can do to freshen up the team – and with a flu-like illness threatening to limit his options we’ll just have to wait and see what transpires in terms of team selection.
I expect McInnes to be back if he’s recovered – and probably at the expense of Mark Kerr who didn’t impress this correspondent one little bit on Wednesday night. Defensively I can’t see any change unless he reverts to a flat back four.
I’ve no idea what to expect from the plastic pitch. Not being a player myself I have no first hand experience and my only use of plastic is usually in River Island or Top Man! Apparently the bounce is fiercer than on grass and I am concerned about this as bringing a ball under control appears at times to be a skill outwith the grasp of many of our players.
Predictions? Well I had a quick gander at the Beat the Manager competition on the site and my excellent lack of form continues so I’ve gone for a 2-1 United win!
