Success generates attention and, inevitably, our success this season appears to be creating interest in more than a few of our players. Little wonder really, the lads have played out of their skins for the badge this year and the spirit running through the squad is apparent for all to see.
Nice then, to see Stephen Thompson re-iterate that, despite the usual derisory sounding-out/tapping of players through the West Coast media by certain struggling behemoths, none of our players will be sold cheaply.
In an ideal world none of this current squad would be sold at all but, the financial reality of United is that we’ve always had to shift someone on at some point to balance the books. The good thing about this season and these current players is that it’s the first time in a long time that we have a wonderful opportunity to potentially hold onto them unless we’re actually offered their true value.
With Europe beckoning (and just how great would be a lucrative wee run there be for the Club coffers) wouldn’t it be fantastic to enter into it with all, or even the vast majority, of the current team still wearing the Tangerine. Failing that, I’m hopeful that our board are shrewd enough to take advantage of our current high stock and make sure the club are adequately compensated for anyone that does leave.
This has been a fantastic season for United…next season may yet prove to be even more wonderful. Tangerine shades required.
